Guangdong to develop "Special Nuclear Power Zone"
Guangdong is to make full use of the existing resource to scale up its nuclear power generation sector, said Vice Governor Huang Longyun on the 5th work meeting of Guangdong Nuclear Power Development Leading Group in Dongguan on July 16 and 17.
On the meeting, the members of the Leading Group, members of the provinces Nuclear Power Development Expert Group and the related departments and units together blueprint the nuclear power sectors development, according to which Guangdong will have an installed nuclear power production capacity of 24 million kw and another 10 million kw under installation by the year 2020. The Lingao Phase II, with production units of 2.16 million kw capacity, is expected to be put into use by 2010. And the other projects in Yangjiang, Taishan, Lufeng are under construction.
Huang pointed out that to develop nuclear power is a must for Guangdong, a province with huge demand for energy. And nuclear power development is also in line with the provinces effort to develop greener energy and is expected to motivate the expansion of related equipment manufacturing and high-end service industries.
During the meeting, the China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group signed cooperation agreements with Guangdong Yudean Group and Sun Yat-sen University respectively. Meanwhile, the experts had a meeting on stimulating the development of Guangdong nuclear power sector and related industries.
